A few things come to mind when I read this. One, the year 1984. It took the United Nations General Assembly until 1984 to approve a resolution of such magnitude of Declaration - one that includes the entire HUMAN RACE - and that was not codified by the Security Council, which is where the real power(if the UN actually USED its power). Everything that has happened in our world since the creation of the United Nations has been just the opposite of what this Declaration "Reaffirms". It is really a cruel mockery. This document "reaffirms, bears in mind, expresses the will, convinces, is aware, recognizes, solemnly proclaims, solemnly declares, emphasizes and finally, appeals, like a beggar who waits for his hand-outs. Pathetic in that begging. I compare the organization the United Nations to a beggar - one who has given up his will to the callousness, hard-heartedness, indifference and apathy of the ones who sneer and walk on by that beggar. (which is what most humans do to those who are in that condition of absolute destitution). Another thing that comes to mind when I see this document is impotence. The UN has made itself into an impotent tool for the powerful and the rich - just another politically corrupt organization. Full of the men and women of hypocrisy and cowardice. Impotent in everything it stands for and was intended to enforce, protect and to fight for. You know. PEACE ON EARTH. PREVENT WAR. It does not take a mental giant to figure this out. Perhaps only a few - a very handful - took their position of high status as Secretary General to heart. I think of Dag Hammerskold. But he was killed in an airplane crash. I always wondered about that one. No, the highest body of potential greatness on planet earth appears totally impotent. Whored away by the little men and women who sold away all of humanity for the price of baying to the pimps in power. I think I heard its death knoll clanging in the age of Viet Nam (earlier of course, the peals were heard from other lands and peoples down until its deafening present in IRAQ, PALESTINE, AFGHANISTAN and AFRICA. Count the horrific conflicts that are happening just in our current history. We are in more than a "dark" age. Where are the sane and healthy leaders? They do not reside in the highest body of supposed International Law in this century of time. From whence will come this global peace that all right hearted ones yearn for? It will not come with just a "reaffirmed resolution" from this impotent global body of "national" representatives hell bent to serve the vile, war criminals who "lead" this planet. As usual there is much more to this story. In that waiting for what all mankind of sane mind yearns and aches for - in that unrequited pain of endurance and unending waiting - lie the graves of so many many many we love and cherish for all time. I ponder these lofty but oh so cavernously empty words and I am filled with everlasting and righteous anger. - deennaa |
